The disturbing, heartbreaking episode of Wayanad landslides in Kerala is a warning to take emergency measures to curb the land encroachment and waterlogging issues that alarmingly lead to flash floods, causing unprecedented human loss.
Flash floods, with water and ooze piercing human settlements and sweeping everything on their way in all the developed, crowded cities and hill areas, are a regular catastrophe these days.
Even Hyderabad, which is said to be the most livable city, makes life difficult for people during the rainy seasons.
If the water logging, drainage, and illegal land and water body encroachments issues are not addressed on a war footing, high-priority basis, the cities may be flooded and cause havoc.
